Female success. There are always so many stories shared on International Women’s Day.
From celebrating achievements of female business owners (check out some of the incredible female business leaders I’ve collaborated with on projects here), and the female workforce, to our mothers, grandmothers, daughters. sisters, cousins. You name it. We share it. 👩🏼💼🦹🏽♀️👩🏻✈️👩🏾🔬👩🏼🌾
I am proud to celebrate all women not only today, but every day. Success though, is a concept to highlight. Success to one person, is so different to another. Often, and particularly on days like today, female success is used as a hallmark. You’ve seen the one liners 👀
🎙️ 5 successful women leading B-Corps
🎙️ 10 women successfully balancing motherhood and business
🎙️ 3 women in Architecture & Interior Design who bravely left 9-5 to run their own studios
🎙️ 8 women who fought and overcame cancer
This celebration, albeit well intentioned, can easily turn into comparison creep. Imposter syndrome. Or that feeling of lack.
We’re constantly comparing to what we ‘think’ female success looks like, when in actual fact, we’re there already. We are enough as we are today, whether we’re an entrepreneur, small business leader, CEO of a large interior design firm or architecture practice, on maternity leave, grieving a loved one or feeling challenged by an illness.
So, today, as a woman, who experiences all this inside emotion too, I want to say to you 📣
🙂 Just because you’re single, doesn’t mean you’re any less worthy than a woman who is partnered up
🪞 If you don’t have children, that doesn’t mean you’re any less worthy than a mother who does.
🧠 Having health difficulties, doesn’t mean you are less worthy than someone ‘healthy’.
⏱️ Choosing to move slowly with your business, instead of fast, doesn’t mean you are less worthy than someone making a huge profit, or that your services are any less valuable.
We can choose our currency, the one most valuable to us. The way we define our achievements. In our own time. In our own way. And they’re often smaller and humdrum than we think.
So, what does success look like for YOU today? 🎏
